Best Practice: Potential of Pink Youth Mentorship

Chapter: NAWBO Kansas City

Goal: Seeking to pull in corporate sponsor money and reach out to the community, NAWBO Kansas City developed the Potential of Pink Youth Mentorship, a mentoring program for college-aged girls.

Implementation: The Potential of Pink Youth Mentorship is a mentoring program for Junior and Senior college-aged girls. To take part, the girls must fill out an application. Then the chapter looks at the applications and matches them to Women Business Owners. The business owners mentor the girls in both business ownership and politics.

It is an amazing opportunity for young girls to establish long-term relationships and obtain scholarship money. The girls also learn a great deal.

Results: NAWBO Kansas City found that this Mentorship program pulls in their corporate sponsors’ money and in-kind value. It also gives them the opportunity to work with their affiliates. Such affiliates that the chapter has worked with during this project have included women business centers like the Association of Women Lawyers, Kansas Council of Women Business Owners, and the Kauffman Foundation.
